About Jody Berman
How did you become a Professional Organizer and Coach?
I always wanted my own business and left advertising to pursue a degree and career in interior design. I did a lot of organizing with decorating clients and found that organizing was my passion. I didn’t know I could make a career out of organizing until I read about it in a women’s magazine under “post-partum pick-me-ups”! Honestly. That was my “AHA” moment when I realized that everything I’d done in the past led me to this career. I created So Organized! in 1996 and joined NAPO (National Association of Professional Organizers), and NAPO-NY and never looked back!
Being organized makes me feel better and more in control of my life. My goal with So Organized! is to provide a service that allows everyone to experience that same feeling. It’s all about the basics. In today’s 24/7 world, it doesn’t take much for life to become chaotic. It’s all about the basics and keeping things simple.
What made you become an Organizer Coach? I’ve always been interested in the underlying causes to disorganization and to some extent, instinctively employed coaching techniques with my hands-on organizing service. Recently, I decided to formalize my coaching by completing and graduating from a comprehensive ICF-accredited coach training program through the Coach Approach for Organizers.
What do you do when you’re not organizing? I run, spin, play golf, practice Bikram yoga, and play canasta. I’m proud of my blackbelt in Shotokan karate, although I no longer practice. And I love spending time with my family and friends.
I’ve been featured on Long Island’s News 12 morning show and in the following publications: NY Times, Newsday, LI Business News, Woman’s Day, Home, and the Herald-Mail. I teach a three-part organizing class, twice a year, for the Roslyn/Herricks Adult Education program.
